========================================================================
This figure is of biosynthetic processes with the central pathway (from
phosphoenolpyruvate to glucose-6-phosphate) that leads to the formation of
different carbohydrates from many different non-carbohydrate precursors in
plants and animals. This process is called GLUCONEOGENESIS. Animals only can
convert lactate, plants and animals can convert products from glycolysis,
glucogenic amino acids and triacylglycerides and, plants alone can do
carbon dioxide fixation into carbohydrates.
